Monday

A quiet moment on a Monday — and a good time to remember to pause and smell the roses as you move through your busy week. Beautiful photograph by the stunningly talented thePhotoZoo on Flickr, via you carry my love inside of your heartbeat.

Helen Musselwhite

I'm in awe of the beautiful work of artist/illustrator Helen Musselwhite, whose exquisite hand cut paper sculptures are created from a variety of coloured, metallic and translucent papers. The Creative Review blog has a great interview with Helen, too (and is the source of these photos of her work).

Back to School With Lotta

One of my favourite designers is Lotta Jansdotter — and I love her new adjustable linen tote, made to fit a stylishly creative kid within the ages of 4 -10 years old. Super cute. Ordering info here.

Snapshot: Summer 8

. . . have had a long-standing love-affair with summer for as long as can remember and often daydream, in the changing seasons, of the many carefree, sundrenched afternoons spent intoxicated by the beautiful languidness of it all — the sun-reflected splashes, the musical sound of white crashing waves, the warmth of saltwater breezes and the feeling that we had all the time in the world . . .

This week's links. Enjoy.

Stop Plagiarism Now
Tina of the wonderful English Muse blog had a heartfelt post this week about the disturbing trend of copycat bloggers, and tells of how two blogger friends of hers recently had their templates stolen, entire chunks of their content stolen — and one even had her blog name stolen! A must read.

Top Ten Turkish Books
Turkish novelist Selçuk Altun picks ten jewels of Turkish literature. I'll be adding a few of these titles to my book list.

City One Minutes
The City One Minutes site is a personal impression by artists of life in their city, divided into 24 one minute portraits, each depicting one hour of the day. Over a hundred cities are covered, from all around the globe. Via Swiss Miss.

The Women's Crusade
Changing the lives of women and girls in developing countries can change everything — witness the growing recognition among everyone from the World Bank to the U.S. military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff to aid organizations like CARE that focusing on women and girls is the most effective way to fight global poverty and extremism. Excellent NYT article by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Chocolate-Scented Stamps
Last month France's postal service La Poste released a limited edition chocolate-themed — and chocolate-scented! — set of ten postage stamps to celebrate the 400th anniversary of chocolate's arrival in France in 1609. Getting mail with these would not only be fun, but delicious. From Serious Eats, via A Cup of Jo.

Daydream Lily
Simply one of the loveliest and most enjoyable blogs I know — if you haven't seen it, you're in for a treat. Liss is one of the best.

Weighty Thoughts
Curious science — a new psychology study finds that holding heavy objects makes us see things as more important. Via Not Exactly Rocket Science on Science Blogs.

Roasted Tomato Soup with Parmesan Crisps
A lovely way to take advantage of all the fresh tomatoes currently in season. By The Italian Dish, via Tastespotting.

Moments of Beauty

Love this — summery, casual and glamorous at the same time. Wonderful photograph by Jackie Rueda on Flickr, via nom, nom, nom.

Western Bohemian

The Bunkhouse, Liz Lambert's guest ranch in the American west, is where she and her friends retreat from their busy lives to relax amid the foothills of the Davis. The surrounding plains are traversed daily by working cowboys, who oversee thousands of cattle grazing — echoes of which can be seen in decorative details such as the saddle displayed on the porch. Bohemian chic, served western style. Via Marie Claire Maison.

Simple Pleasures

Art. Just think how bleak the world would be without it to enrich our lives every day. The lovely still life above is by Tomas Hiepes, a Spanish painter recorded as living and working in Valencia from about 1643, and best known for his still-life and flower paintings. Via wolke*sieben.

Mark Lazenby

I'm really enjoying looking at the portfolio of collage artist Mark Lazenby. Love his intelligent and imaginative work.

Hope your Monday is a bright start to a great week. Pretty photo by the wonderful Nicole Hill Gerulat of A Little Sussy. Via whimsicalities.

A Simple Palette

This beautiful loft in Philadelphia was originally a window factory, built in the early 1900's. The current owners, Frank and Ditta Hoeber, envisioned the space as a background for their books, art and vintage furniture. Sensitively renovated by Qb3 Design, it's a very comfortable and liveable space, with plenty of texture and colour provided by the relaxed display of the Hoeber's various collections against the white background. More info here. Via LoftLife.
